Drawing on the letters, photographs, poems and family papers preserved by Anne Frank’s cousin Buddy Elias and his wife Gerti, Mirjam Pressler traces the family history behind the diary. The book follows Anne’s relationship with Buddy, the relatives who found refuge in Switzerland, and Otto Frank’s search for his daughters after the Holocaust. Their correspondence records the family’s separation, wartime uncertainty and grief, as well as its response to the diary’s worldwide readership.
