Monster is a psychological crime thriller in Jonathan Kellerman’s Alex Delaware series, following psychologist Alex Delaware and Detective Milo Sturgis as they investigate a series of brutal murders linked to a supposedly secure institution for the criminally insane. The case begins with a mutilated body found in a car and deepens when an inmate’s incoherent words appear to predict further killings outside the hospital walls. As Delaware and Sturgis move between the asylum and the streets of Los Angeles, the investigation exposes family secrets, manipulation, revenge and the uneasy boundary between madness and calculated violence. The novel focuses on the question of what makes a person monstrous, and whether the most dangerous truth is locked inside the institution or moving freely outside it.
