The book The Unseen Borders is an exhibition catalog published for the 1st International Biennial of South Africa, held in Johannesburg in 1995. It was produced under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Cultural and Scientific Affairs Department, the Ministry of Science and the Arts – Culture Administration, and the National Public Council for Culture and Arts – Visual Arts Section.
Curated and edited by Meir Aharonson, the exhibition explored the concept of borders—geographical, political, cultural, and conceptual—and how they shape individual and collective experiences. The catalog integrates academic essays and diverse artworks, serving as an important record of an international artistic dialogue on transformation, identity, and society.
